Who We Are

CLC leverages "the power of WE" to save money and accomplish projects too large or costly for a single library. We help nearly 800 Connecticut libraries save, learn, and collaborate.


  • 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, mandated by Connecticut statute
  • Membership open to all libraries in the state of Connecticut - public, academic, school, and special
  • 2019 membership - 813 libraries:
       224 public libraries - 98% of Connecticut public libraries
       51 academic libraries - 87% of Connecticut academic institutions
       511 school libraries - 463 public, 48 private/parochial. 69% of CT public school districts have at least 1 CLC member
       26 special libraries - includes corporate, non-profit, religious, etc.

  • CLC saves Connecticut libraries millions of dollars each year by leveraging the collective buying power of our members. We negotiate discounted prices on a wide variety of library resources and services essential to excellent library service for Connecticut citizens.
  • CLC’s statewide contracts for books, non-print media, and supplies enable members to waive their own bidding requirements and realize savings of up to 80% on mission-critical library materials.
  • CLC provides low-cost, high-impact library professional development by coordinating more than 30 member-driven “roundtables,” where members share knowledge and ideas about professional topics.
  • CLC arranges workshops, symposia, and collaborative events to help librarians improve service to their communities and keep up with the latest professional trends.
  • CLC partners with state agencies, businesses, and other non-profits to bring more programs and services to libraries, and to convey to a wider audience the essential role that libraries play in Connecticut’s 169 cities and towns.

Working With CLC

CLC's goal is always the same: To bring our 800 members the very best library products and services at the best possible prices. While each contract is different, in order to partner with CLC you agree to the following:

  • You will only extend CLC member pricing/benefits to CLC member libraries.
  • You will verify CLC membership by consulting the current CLC member list or contacting CLC.
  • CLC members will receive a lower price than non-members, and/or an added benefit that non-members do not receive.
  • You will provide savings figures to CLC twice annually.
