Connecticut's New Law

In the 2019 legislative session, the Connecticut General Assembly passed, and the Governor signed, Public Acts 19-16 and 19-93, which together constitute the Time’s Up Act.

These bills require most employers to provide two hours of interactive sexual harassment training and education. (Learn more about CLC can help with this requirement here.) In addition, employers must provide new employees with information regarding the illegality of sexual harassment and remedies available to victims. It is recommended that employers have an anti-harassment policy in order to properly address this requirement.

CLC is here to help

Fortunately, CLC has made it a snap for you to develop your own harassment policy. Expand the sections below to learn more about anti-harassment policies and how you can easily create your own with our free template, which was developed for CLC by a team of HR and legal experts.

An anti-harassment policy defines how employees are to report sexual or unlawful harassment or discrimination and defines a process for handling complaints.

The new law requires employers to provide to a new employee a copy of information regarding the illegality of sexual harassment and remedies available to victims. At CLC, we learned that having an updated anti-harassment policy that helps employees navigate communication, complaints and other critical issues is an essential part of training and reduces risk. It is a good practice to have reporting, filing of incidents and other anti-harassment policies developed and distributed to employees as part of your employee training.

CLC hired AmEnde Human Resources (a CT based HR firm that CLC and other libraries in CT have used), and the law firm of Carmody, Torrance, Sandak & Hennessey LLP to develop our Anti-Harassment and Sexual Harassment Policy. As a member benefit, we are providing our Anti-Harassment and Sexual Harassment Policy template ($850 value) for members to use free of charge. We paid for it so you don't have to.
