Budget Update: You can still speak up for CLC

Friday, May 15, 2015   (0 Comments)

Dear CLC members and friends,

We appreciate your support and advocacy efforts not only on behalf of CLC, but for all the CT State Library funded projects.  Your emails, phone calls, letters and conversations were not in vain; almost all of the library programs were funded to 90 - 95% of their FY14-15 funding in the proposed legislative budget released April 27th.

Unfortunately, CLC's funding was not restored to these same levels.

Only $190,000 (57%) of CLC's $332,500 FY14-15 funding was restored.
We are not out of the woods yet.

Many CLC supporters have asked what they can to do to help CLC restore the $142,500 additional funding.

The most effective thing you can do right now is reach out to your local mayor and/or selectmen by phone or email. Let them know how much your library and your municipality have saved through CLC.

Ask your town officials to speak up to their state senators and representatives about the impact that the $142,500 cut to CLC will have on your community. Without full funding, CLC will not have the same ability to negotiate savings. The result is your library/town will have to use more of their funds to buy the same amount of library books, databases and supplies, or reduce the library programs and services provided to citizens of your community. This information needs to be communicated to the Appropriations Committee by your state senators and representatives.

Now is the time to ask your local elected officials to speak up about the impact of this library funding cut to your community. We need your help to get CLC the $142,500 needed to be fully funded.

To find out your library's and your town's savings figures, contact any CLC staff member by phone or email. As always, I welcome your questions and concerns - contact me any time at or 860.344.8777 x103.

Thank you,
Jennifer Keohane, CLC Executive Director
