New Director, Old Problems

As a new director, one of the first challenges you will face is dealing with issues that pre-date your employment. Old issues can be anything from deferred maintenance, policies that never materialized or were updated, or personnel issues that are still pending. As a new director these issues can be overwhelming to face, particularly if trustees or staff are anxious for them to be addressed while you are still trying to figure out how to work the copier! It can also be frustrating when old issues take priority over instituting the new ideas you have for your library.

Join us for our first New Director’s Roundtable of the year and bring any “old issues” you are currently facing as we discuss strategies for successfully managing and prioritizing these tasks while also adding your own new ideas to the mix.  We will also have time to discuss any other topics participants wish to bring up related to being a new director.

The New Directors Roundtable is a forum to encourage discussion, professional development and support among those who are new or new-ish to the library director role, and anyone from out-of-state who has recently taken a library director position in Connecticut.
