Critical Librarianship

Library staff interested in social justice and social responsibility are invited to the next meeting of the Social Justice Roundtable on Thursday, April 5 at 1:00pm at the John P. Webster Library at First Church in West Hartford. Join your colleagues in sharing concerns, resources, and ideas, and engaging in coordinated efforts to better serve our communities through improved communication and understanding.

This meeting will focus on Critical Librarianship. Critical librarianship "supports the belief that, in our work as librarians, we should examine and fight attempts at social oppression" (Meredith Farkas, Critical Librarianship and Technology). A panel will discuss the topic and how it undergirds social justice work in libraries. Speakers:

  • Christine Gauvreau, Project Coordinator, Connecticut Digital Newspaper Project
  • Eino Sierpe, Associate Professor, Information & Library Science Department, SCSU
  • Su Epstein, Director, Saxton B. Little Free Library, Columbia

Registration - Please register using the link above. It takes just a few moments, and is greatly appreciated. Registration is limited to 30.

Directions/Parking - John P. Webster Library at First Church is located in West Hartford Center (exit 43 off I-84) on the town green at the intersection of Farmington Avenue and South Main Street. The church’s parking lot is accessible from Farmington Ave. Alternative parking is available on South Main Street or the Isham Garage.
