While providing services in an inclusive public library setting, workers encounter a broad range of patrons - some of whom may have behavioral or mental health issues. No matter what department you work in - frontline staff, manager, facilities - you'll be sure to take away tips from this all-day program.

This seminar will cover the following topics:

  • How to design/foster a safe library environment
  • How to understand and recognize common mental health issues
  • How to identify and distinguish between behaviors which are merely challenging, and those which may present a threat to library staff and library patrons
  • Techniques to de-escalate a situation
  • What to do in case of an emergency

AGENDA:

9:30 - Coffee and registration

10:00 - Welcome by Leslie Scherer, Director of Wallingford PL & Introduction of Panel Members

10:05 - Panel 1: Behavioral/Mental Health Professionals & Security Professionals. Moderator: Chris Bradley, Executive Director, CLC

This is a Flickr badge showing items in a set called Annual Meeting at Leon's. Make your own badge here.

Was this really a meeting? Yes, the business got done, but CLC's 5th Annual Meeting at Leon's in New Haven was mostly about celebrating our colleagues and our profession - and having good time doing it! Check out our Flickr photostream of the event - if you were there, chances are we snapped your photo ... and if you weren't, you can see all the fun you missed:

CLC Dues are Due!

It's that time of year! Remember that CLC is a statewide library cooperative whose operations depend on both an annual state grant and member libraries' dues and fees. So do the right thing - be cost-conscious, be informed, be cooperative, and pay up!

Need to justify your membership dues to funding authorities?
Check out our list of member benefits.
How could anyone say no?

Locate your membership renewal application & dues invoice by type of library, below (all in PDF). Please print out and return. Questions? Contact Pattie Noren, Project Coordinator: pnoren@ctlibrarians.org or 860-465-5001.
