WE DIG SUMMER READING BANNERFCCLR 2005 Summer Reading Program

About the Program

For 25+ years, the Fairfield County Children's Librarians' Roundtable (FCCLR) has been producing summer reading materials cooperatively at reasonable prices. In 2004, CLA recognized the program by awarding it with the Faith Hektoen Award for Outstanding Program.

This year's program, "We Dig Summer Reading," features gorgeous artwork by Kate Duke of New Haven (see image at top of page). This theme lends itself to all sorts of activities relating to archaeology, paleontology, art history, geology, and anthropology. Any part of the world can be explored as well, since archaeologists work to uncover the past on all continents. So pull out the pith helmets and trowels, cue up the Indiana Jones movies, and get ready for a terrific summer @ your library!

This program is available to Connecticut libraries of all types. If your library would like to participate, contact Deb Zulick at CLC, dzulick@ctlibrarians.org or 860-344-8777.

Online Manual

FCCLR and CLC are pleased to present our first-ever Summer Reading Program Online Manual. The manual is intended as a practical guide for librarians who will be planning and implementing "We Dig Summer Reading" at their library. The program ideas and crafts are only suggestions, allowing for and encouraging in-house creativity and expertise. The manual is the work of Fairfield County Children's Librarians' Roundtable members, staff from other participating libraries throughout the state, and Connecticut Library Consortium staff. Please submit your suggestions for materials to Deb Zulick at CLC: dzulick@ctlibrarians.org. Enjoy!
