READ AMERICA BANNERFCCLR 2006 Summer Reading Program

About the Program

For 25+ years, the Fairfield County Children's Librarians' Roundtable (FCCLR) has been producing summer reading materials cooperatively at reasonable prices. In 2004, CLA recognized the program by awarding it with the Faith Hektoen Award for Outstanding Program.

READ!America poster

This year's program, "ReadAmerica," features artwork by premier folk-artist and Connecticut resident Kathy Jakobsen. A picture is worth a thousand words, and the "ReadAmerica" artwork featured above is from the book This Land Is Your Land (Little Brown, 1998, ISBN 0-316-39215-4 trade edition) - a spectacular fold-out 3 page spread of the entire US of A. This artwork complements and inspires many Summer Reading themes and activities, as it ties in with geography, nature, music, folk art, American history, patriotism and community spirit.

This program is available to Connecticut libraries of all types. If your library would like to participate, contact Deb Zulick at CLC, dzulick@ctlibrarians.org or 860-344-8777.

Online Manual

FCCLR and CLC are pleased to present our second annual Summer Reading Program Online Manual. The manual is intended as a practical guide for librarians who will be planning and implementing "ReadAmerica" at their library. The program ideas and crafts are only suggestions, allowing for and encouraging in-house creativity and expertise. The manual is the work of Fairfield County Children's Librarians' Roundtable members, staff from other participating libraries throughout the state, and Connecticut Library Consortium staff. Please submit your suggestions for materials to Deb Zulick at CLC: dzulick@ctlibrarians.org. Enjoy!
