CLA Minimum Salary Guideline
The Connecticut Library Association recommends a minimum salary for entry-level positions requiring an MLS.
As of July 1, 2007, this salary is $24.55/hour ($25.29/hour beginning July 2008).
For full-time jobs, this translates to:
- $44,681/year for a 35 hour week ($46,021 beginning July 2008)
- $47,873/year for a 37.5 hour week ($49,309 beginning July 2008)
- $51,064/year for a 40 hour week ($52,596 beginning July 2008)

Children's/Program Librarian - needed on a temporary part-time basis for a small library serving a community of 5,600 in the lower Naugatuck River valley. Individual should be friendly, outgoing and committed to giving fine customer service. Duties include preparing and delivering a single pre-school story time with age-appropriate craft twice each week (Thursdays at 5:30 P.M. and Fridays at 10:30 A.M.), occasional craft programs on Saturday A.M. for elementary school-aged children, and planning, delivering and/or arranging for adult/YA programming. The Systems Administrator plays a leadership role in researching, implementing and maintaining new technologies to position the Wahlstrom Library for next generation excellence. Project Manager - A project manager to be based out of the Connecticut State Library is sought to manage the Conservation ConneCTion: a statewide conservation planning initiative project funded by the Institute of Museum and Library Services. This is a part-time contracted position, ranging from 15 to 25 hours per week, with modest travel required within Connecticut. The start date is immediate, and the position will continue through September 30, 2009. Compensation will depend upon experience and level of involvement, with a maximum compensation of $40,000 over 16 months. Benefits are not included. The Library has a staff of 7 part-time employees, and is overseen by an elected Board of Trustees. The Library Director traditionally enjoys a high degree of autonomy. Description: The Babcock Library is a rural municipal Library of 4000 sq. ft. There is also access to a 2000 sq. ft. hall in the building. The Library Director position is full-time, 37 hour position and will include some nights. There will also be other occasions during which the Library Director should be present, most notably at the monthly Board of Trustees meeting, and at various Town or Library events and meetings. Requirements: A Bachelor's Degree and two years of library supervisor experience as Director or Assistant Director. What is a "professional" position?
Professional level positions in libraries include directors, department heads, and other management level positions; most positions that include "librarian" in the title (eg., children's librarians, reference librarians, teen librarians, catalogers/cataloging librarians, corporate/law/medical librarians, etc.); school library media specialists; and many more. Just because a hiring institution does not require an MLS for such positions does not mean they are not professional in nature. Libraries, schools, and other institutions that are members in good standing of the Connecticut Library Consortium, or are institutional members of the Connecticut Library Association, may place advertisements on this site for no charge. The fee for non-member institutions is $100.00 per advertisement.
