2015 Legislative Session: Our Ask

Connecticut’s public libraries are "Dead on Arrival" in this year’s proposed state budget.

Funding to important statewide library programs Connecticut Library Consortium (aka Cooperating Library Service Units), Connecticard, and Grants to Public Libraries are all impacted.

    IMPACT ON CLC:

The Governor’s budget proposes to eliminate all state funding for CLC
    (Cooperating Library Service Units).

Governor’s Bill No. 942 repeals the state statute that authorizes CLC to exist and be funded.

The proposed cut is 63% of CLC’s operating budget. If this budget and the bill are passed:

    • CLC will not be able to continue saving Connecticut’s libraries over 7.1 million in products and services next year or in the years to come.
    • Key educational, professional development and training initiatives would cease to exist.
    • CLC’s future will be in jeopardy.

We need your help now to make sure the budget that is recommended in April by the Appropriations Committee includes full funding for CLC.

    OUR ASK:

The Legislature should restore Cooperating Library Service Units (CLC)
to their funding levels of $500,000.

    Without this restoration:

    • The Connecticut Library Consortium (CLC), the only remaining Cooperating Library Service Unit in Connecticut, will be crippled.
    • Connecticut libraries of all types and the taxpayers that support them will no longer save over $7.1M annually through CLC’s coordinated discounts and group purchases for books, databases, resources and training.
